Prep + Care for the Tan of Your Dreams
Spray Tan Prep
24 hours prior to your spray tan please prepare your skin with the following:
-Shower 12-24 hours prior to your spray tan. Exfoliate as much as possible with an oil-free body scrub or exfoliating mitt. Especially focus on elbows, knees, ankles, neck, and heels. DO NOT use any Dove or Bath & Body Works products before during or after your spray tan - it will cause it to streak.
-IF you must shower the day of your tan - please do not shower less than 4 hours prior to the tan application and use lukewarm water.
-Avoid using any lotions, oils, makeup, or deodorant prior to your tan.
-Have loose fitting clothes available for your appointment. I recommend loose fitting sweats or pajama pants with a loose waist band, long sleeve shirt, and regular flip flips. Wearing jeans socks, close-toed shoes, bras, or anything tight and abrasive will affect the development of your tan.
-Manicures and pedicures should be done no sooner than 48 hours prior to your tan.
Spray Tan After-Care
*IMPORTANT - We use Rapid Tans only! You will be sprayed, allow it to develop for 2-6 hours, rinse with lukewarm water (no washing your hair or body in this shower), pat dry, and then your tan will develop over the following 24 hours without any lotions on your skin. After 24 hours you will begin these steps to take care of your tan:
-Try to limit the amount of shaving during the life of your tan. If you do shave use conditioner rather than a shaving cream to prevent streaking.
-Do not urinate in the shower. May cause streaking.
-Pat dry with a towel after you shower.
-Moisturize your skin twice per day with sulfate and mineral oil-free products.
-Drink a lot of water after your tan - this will help your tan stay longer.
- 5-7 days after your tan you can start to gently exfoliate it off with a mitt or scrub to allow it to evenly fade.
DISCLAIMERS:
-If you have experienced a recent sunburn - even if it is “healed” within the month prior to your tan, please know it has a chance of causing the spray tan to peel. It is recommended to wait at least one month to tan after a burn, with no guarantee that it may or may not peel/not be an even tone or smooth.
-Menstrual cycles can affect your spray tan because your body’s PH may fluctuate. If you are within a couple days of your cycle and your tan does not fully develop it is at no fault of your spray tan artist. *It is helpful to know so we can apply an extra layer to try and avoid it not developing fully.
-Failure to follow proper skin prep can negatively affect how your tan is applied or lasts - it is very important to follow! If you do not your spray tan artist is not at fault.
